HAXBY'S new mobile library is finally ready to hit the roads, and the new facility will be launched this Saturday.
The communities of Haxby and Wigginton have had a temporary library in Oaken Grove Community Centre, since the permanent building was closed at short notice late last summer, because of structural problems.
The new mobile will serve the towns until a new permanent home is ready in Haxby Memorial Hall, and it will launch this Saturday, June 10 at 10am at Oaken Grove Community Centre.
Cllr Nigel Ayre, executive member for leisure and culture at City of York Council, said: "We are thrilled to be supporting the new mobile library service in Haxby. We have been working really hard with Explore over the last few months to find a solution for the service and are very grateful for the wonderful support from our customers and partners in the village."
The new van has Explore library branding so will be easily recognisable at village stops, and is equipped with self-service technology, a wide range of books including large print and audio, and it will be offering regular activities and special events such as craft groups, readers groups, storytimes and digital sessions.
The mobile library will be open five days a week in four different locations, and each stop will be for a full day and a half day on Saturday. It will stop in the same place on the same day every week and the timetable includes Ethel Ward Playing Field on Mondays 9.30am – 6.30pm; Haxby Memorial Hall on Tuesdays 9.30am –5pm; Wigginton Recreation Hall on Wednesdays 9.30am –5pm; and Oaken Grove Community Centre on Fridays 9.30am –5pm and Saturdays 9.30am – 12.30pm.
