AN ELECTRICAL fault is believed to have sparked a car fire on the A64 near York this morning, which closed the westbound carriageway.
The fire, involving a BMW car, happened near Grimston Bar.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 6.20am, and police also attended to assist with traffic control.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The cause of fire was electrical."
Crews put out the fire using one hose reel jet.
The driver got out of the car safely and no other vehicles were involved, a spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said.
The road was reopened shortly after 8.20am.
