YORK’S first shop dedicated entirely to women’s cycling has opened been by brother and sister team, David Trotter and Nicola Doody, who are third generation bicycle retailers in the city.
The shop in Monkgate spans three floors of the town house where the family business was first established in 1955, by David and Nicola’s grandfather, Bob Trotter.
Now fully restored, it has areas dedicated to different types of women’s cycling, including off-road performance, city riding and performance road cycling.
The store is owned and managed by the siblings and is the UK’s first Liv Cycling outlet after they partnered with the global women’s cycling brand, to launch the flagship store alongside their established bike shop, the Giant Store York in Lord Mayors Walk.
Mr Trotter said: “The addition of Liv Store York means we can offer so much more to all our customers. We now have the best selection of bicycles and apparel for female cyclists, plus we have been able to expand our range of men’s bikes at the Giant Store York.”
The team celebrated its official launch when 130 people attended, including cycling clubs and British Cycling Breeze Network, the Yorkshire Lass Cycling Club and York Triathlon Club.
Mrs Doody, who will manage the store, said: “We are blown away by the overwhelming support we have had from Yorkshire’s thriving community of female cyclists.
“ I am personally really passionate about getting more women into cycling, so we’re here to offer the warmest of welcomes and guidance on the first steps of your cycling journey.”
Nicola, a keen cyclist herself, also highlighted that it’s not just about newcomers, but that those riders who want to go faster and further haven’t been forgotten about.
“We are genuinely committed to giving female riders a platform to elevate their performance to the next level, whatever their discipline and goals. We have separate floors dedicated to Liv Cycling’s exceptional range of specialist on-road and off-road performance bikes specifically for women, and knowledge and services to match, for example on-site Powerfit bike fitting.”
She added that Liv Store York is dedicated to the local community and has activities planned including rides and talks to encourage women to take to two wheels.”
