A NEW top boss has been named at one of York’s leading attractions.
Steve Davies is the new director of the National Railway Museum, following the departure of Andrew Scott earlier this year.
He will join in the New Year, after leaving his current post as director of the Museum Of Science And Industry in Manchester.
He previously served in the military, and was Army Chief of Staff Headquarters 2nd Division, overseeing 250 staff and 10,000 troops.
Mr Davies, who is an MBE, said: “I am absolutely thrilled and delighted to have been entrusted with leading the NRM at this very exciting time in its development. The NRM is the world’s pre-eminent railway museum and a national treasure.”
Lord Waldegrave, chairman of the NRM’s parent body, the National Museum Of Science And Industry, said: “We are certain that his vast experience, genuine enthusiasm for railways and impressive leadership skills will make him the perfect fit to meet the NRM’s needs for the future.”
Mr Davies’ passion for railways was demonstrated while he was serving in Sierra Leone, where he transformed a warehouse of decaying railway artefacts into a museum, including locomotives and carriages from the Queen’s train used during her visit in 1961.
