A FITNESS instructor is attempting to cycle from York to Amsterdam – a distance of 300 miles.
Nikki Regan, of Hull Road, York, will set off with 59 other Yorkshire women on the marathon bike ride on June 11.
The Roko Health Club fitness instructor is taking part in the ride in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Setting off from York Designer Outlet she will cycle through Escrick, Market Weighton and on to Hull.
Arriving by ferry in Rotterdam the ride will continue through Maassluis and The Hague, eventually finishing in Amsterdam on June 15.
Nikki said: “I’m a runner not a cyclist so it’s a bit nerve-racking.
“I’ve been getting out on the roads on the bike that Martin Beever Skoda has given me, but I’m not looking forward to it.
“It will be the first cycling event I’ve taken part in.”
She is also training in the gym, taking part in spinning classes and is trying to build up to the 60-plus miles that she will be cycling each day.
But Nikki is also getting plenty of support. She said York City Football Club had donated balls for her to raffle and the players were also helping her with her training in the gym.
Roko Health Club, in Stirling Road, is also helping with fundraising.
On April 10, the club will be offering free trials of the gym and staging raffles and tombola to raise cash for Marie Curie.
Nikki said: “A huge thank you to anyone who wants to contribute to this and thank you to those who have already supported it.”
