THE appointment of Chris Brass as player manager today rewrites the record books.
At 27, Brass is the youngest managerial appointment in more than 50 years.
Carlisle United hold the record after appointing Ivor Broadis as player-manager in 1946, when he was aged just 23.
Broadis had never played first-class professional football, though he had appeared as a wartime amateur for Millwall and Tottenham Hotspur.
Broadis created another record when he became the only manager to transfer himself - to Sunderland for £18,000 in September 1949.
