York will be alive with the sound of music when a brass band festival marches into town. May Bank Holiday weekend will see a range of events taking place under the banner of Brassed On!
Two hundred people are expected to take part in a massed bands concert by all five of the city’s brass bands on Sunday in the Museum Gardens, the first of its kind. Elsewhere, soloists from the world-famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band will lead a master-class for young musicians.
There will also be a special showing of Brassed Off, the film which inspired the festival, at City Screen cinema, with writer/director Mark Herman giving a question and answer session.
