YOU’VE heard of a room with a view – but York’s first five-star hotel has a bath with startling rooftop views across the city.
The free-standing cast-iron bath has been installed in a luxurious penthouse suite on the top floor of the Cedar Court Grand Hotel in Station Rise, which opens this afternoon.
The suite, which has been created out of the former railway offices’ caretaker flat, costs from £750 a night.
For that, guests will get facilities including a round-the-clock butler service, breakfast served to their room, three flat-screen TVs situated in various locations, a spacious shower room for two and that bath, looking out towards Micklegate and the Terry’s chocolate factory.
A “well-known individual”, whose identity has not been disclosed, is set to be the suite’s first guest tonight. The £20 million hotel was frantic with activity yesterday, as contractors worked to get everything ready for the opening.
General manager Andrew Coney was confident they would complete their work in time. Only 25 rooms were set to be occupied tonight, with the remainder to be opened up over the coming weeks. A luxury spa is due to open by the end of the month.
