A REPORT which recommends lowering the UK drink-drive limit has been welcomed by North Yorkshire Police.
The North Report, which was commissioned by the Department for Transport, said the legal limit should be cut to 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The current limit is 80mg per 100ml of blood.
National road charity Brake has called for the legal limit to be reduced to 20mg per 100ml – essentially creating a zero-tolerance limit.
While not explicitly backing an outright drinking ban for drivers, a spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said their advice would be not to drink at all if you were intending to get behind the wheel.
“You cannot tell what affect even one drink will have on an individual,” she said.
