DELEGATES from four continents are coming to York tomorrow to share ideas on creating car-free cities.
The 13th international Towards Carfree Cities conference, which is being held for the first time in the UK, will attract hundreds of delegates to York from around the world.
Academics, city planners and campaigners for green travel from the United States, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and mainland Europe, will develop practical alternatives to car-dependent lifestyles, offering cutting-edge, radical thinking in transport policy and car-free development, covering topics including freight in car-free areas, DIY street makeovers, social marketing and the psychology of car dependence.
On Tuesday, there will be an open day for the public at the Priory Street Centre followed by a film night and panel debate at the City Screen.
On the final day of the conference, Thursday, July 1, the organisers have planned the first ever Bishopthorpe Road street party.
See The Press on Monday for more details and comment on the events.
