A TEENAGE mother faces a spell behind bars after CCTV cameras captured her kicking a man in the head in the city centre in the early hours.

The 17-year-old girl was with two young men who also attacked a group in Blake Street at 2.55 am on June 24, York magistrates heard.

After watching the CCTV film, the justices jailed the girl’s co-accused, Liam David Holding, for 84 days, and sent her to York Youth Court for sentence.

The third attacker, Anthony William Kerrigan, is awaiting sentence by the crown court.

The girl’s solicitor, Liam Hassan, said she could be locked up as well as she is currently on a supervision order and a conditional discharge for two previous offences of affray.

The girl gave birth when she was 16, and was very worried about the child’s future if she was jailed, as its father had been jailed earlier this year for matters not involving her.

Both Holding, 21, of Crombie Avenue, Clifton, and the girl, of north York, pleaded guilty to a public order offence.

She cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Steven Ovenden, prosecuting, said Holding punched a man to the ground, Kerrigan also punched out and then the girl kicked one of the victims in the head. Magistrates said Holding had pursued one man who appeared to walk away from the incident and hit someone on the ground.

Mr Hassan said the CCTV did not show the start of the incident, in which the group that was attacked had been making comments to the girl’s group. Holding had been in trouble in the past but was trying to sort out his life. He had been in work, but was made redundant and was now getting help in applying for jobs through the Jobcentre. Kerrigan, 18, of Willerby House, Lowther Street, had admitted a public order offence at an earlier hearing.
