A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the vicious assault on a motel manager from Pocklington.

Humberside Police said the man, from South Killingholme in North Lincolnshire, was arrested this morning and taken to Scunthorpe Police Station, where is due to be questioned by detectives shortly.

A spokeswoman said the arrest was in direct connection to an appeal made yesterday by the victim and the police at the scene of the incident, which involved the release of graphic photographs showing his injuries.

Michael Brown, who manages the Yorkway Motel, lost the use of an eye and his face was shattered in the assault, which happened in the motel car park last month.

Detective Inspector Colin Waddington from Beverley CID said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who called in with information following yesterday's emotional appeal. We are very much in the early stages of this investigation and a lot of work still needs to be done.

“I still need information to come in from members of the public who think they may have witnessed the red coloured Vauxhall Corsa, recognise the person in the Electronic image or have any information, however small or irrelevant you think it might be. It coIld be the last few pieces to the puzzle we need to bring this inquiry to a successful conclusion.

“Once again I would like to thank all the people who have contacted the police in the last 24 hours, the amount of calls received have been tremendous.”
