THE cash-strapped winner of this year’s Miss York has been handed two designer outfits from a York boutique to compete in this week’s Miss England.

Hannah Buffam, 19, who was crowned Miss York in May, will today head to Birmingham to represent the city in the national finals of the competition.

However, with just “four pence” in her bank account, the University of York student feared she would not have a new outfit for the after-show party.

Step up Andrea Butler, owner of Molly Browns in Low Petergate, who offered two stunning outfits for Hannah.

Hannah said: “Without her help I would have been stuck. I don’t know what I would have done.

“Angela Beasley, the organiser of Miss York contacted me and said there were some ladies who would like to help me out.”

Andrea Butler, who is an old friend of Angela Beasley’s, said she was only to happy help Hannah out.

“A lady came in to my shop and I recognised her. It was Angela, who I haven’t seen for 20 years. So it’s a stroke of luck really. Hannah looks lovely in the outfits.”
