RESIDENTS will be unable to park outside their homes for up to 12 weeks as gas main repairs take place.

A £176,000 project in South Bank, York, will replace about 1.6km of metal gas main with modern plastic pipe.

Gas mains will be upgraded on Adelaide Street, Balmoral Terrace, Brunswick Street, Cameron Grove, Curzon Terrace, Herbert Street, Queen Victoria Street, Ruby Street and Windsor Street from September 15, and the work is expected to take around 12 weeks to complete. The roads will be closed between 8am and 5pm and all parking will be suspended while the repairs take place.

Northern Gas Networks said a customer liaison officer will be on site to give residents advance warning of when restrictions would affect their road.

The company’s Richie Read said the parking ban was its only option because local streets were so narrow.

Northern Gas Networks has invited residents to a public information evening on Wednesday, September 8, at St Chad’s Church Hall, Campleshon Road, York, between 4pm and 9pm, to learn more about the project.
