YORK and North Yorkshire MPs have lobbied for the region to be used as a pilot scheme for “superfast” broadband.
Nigel Adams, Robert Goodwill, Andrew Jones and Julian Smith attended a meeting with Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Jeremy Hunt, with letters of support from Hugh Bayley and Julian Sturdy.
A decision is due to be taken later this year on the location of pilot schemes for “superfast” connections. Mr Sturdy, MP for York Outer, said: “Alongside colleagues from neighbouring constituencies, I strongly believe that superfast broadband will generate new private sector growth while also empowering our local communities here in York Outer.”
