A YORK school looked more like Wall Street as 200 schoolchildren took part in The Stock Market Challenge.
Pupils from Fulford School were at Burnholme College – a specialist business and enterprise college – to learn how the Stock Exchange works and experience life on a trading floor.
At the start each pupil received an imaginary £15,000 to invest.
Throughout the day they were given information on ten businesses, of which they had to decide whether to buy or sell their shares accordingly.
The winner was the person who had made the most money.
Burnholme has run this scheme for the last two years to emphasise the importance of pupils learning the basics of business from a young age.
Director of specialism Ben Sutherlands said: “We now feel that because of our changing economy it is more important than ever for students from across the city to understand how the stock market works, and can find out for themselves how the market affects the economy as a whole.”
