ARMED police surrounded a house in Tang Hall after reports of a man inside with a knife.
The alarm was raised just before 9am yesterday following reports of a disturbance at a house in Fifth Avenue.
The caller told police that a man at the property had a knife and was threatening to harm people.
When police armed with carbines arrived at the house everyone inside had got out except for the man.
Following a two-hour siege and lengthy negotiations, the 26-year-old gave himself up.
He was then arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill.
The Press understands he had been arrested on Sunday on suspicion of breaching the peace, but had been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “There was a two-hour stand-off with the man, but the situation was resolved peacefully.”
Yesterday evening the man was still in police custody.
