A WOMAN has stolen cash, credit cards and mobile phones from lockers at a top York leisure club.
Six women had possessions stolen from individual lockers at David Lloyd gym between 1.45pm and 2.15pm on Wednesday.
Police are now examining CCTV footage to try to track down the thief who broke into the lockers, which were secured by personalised combination locks.
One of the victims, who asked not be named, told The Press she had gone to the health and fitness complex, off Hull Road, at about 1.55pm to go for a swim.
On returning to the locker she found the lock removed and her wallet, containing credit cards and £75, and her phone missing.
She said: “You expect when you pay for a membership at a private members’ leisure club that you are safe leaving your things in a secure locker.
“I guess the woman was a professional and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Later that day, at about 6pm, a further five lockers were also broken into the Leeds branch of David Lloyd. The company said CCTV cameras, security patrols and a photographic access system were in place to minimise crime and staff immediately told police about the thefts.
A spokeswoman said: “There are permanent highly visible signs advising members and guests to be vigilant of their possessions and that they leave valuables at their own risk. Unfortunately the lockers are not Fort Knox so if somebody wants to force their way in then it can happen.”
