THE number of operations cancelled due to non-clinical reasons has dropped slightly in our region’s hospitals over the past three months.

The latest figures for York Hospital show that between July and September, the number of cancelled procedures was 47; however two of those did not meet the target to be back in theatre within 28 days of the cancellation.

In the previous quarter the hospital had 59 procedures cancelled due to non-clinical reasons but all were rescheduled within 28 days.

With last-minute cancellations, meaning the same day, hospitals are obliged to pay for the patient to be treated at a hospital of their choice if they are not operated on within 28 days.

Harrogate Hospital saw 39 cancellations, down three on the last quarter, while Scarborough Hospital was down three on last quarter’s 65, though five patients were not rescheduled within 28 days.
