A WORLD-renowned sculptor who says he owes his life to staff at York Hospital has loaned four pieces of his work for display at the Wigginton Road site.
Michael Lyons, a former vice president of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, said he would probably not be here now if not for the care he received at the hospital, and said the loan of the sculptures was a “heartfelt, if inadequate, expression of gratitude.”
The exhibition, called Continuity, will be officially opened by Peter Murray, the executive director of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, at an event tomorrow afternoon in the chapel at the Hospital.
Mr Lyons said: “This exhibition is a heartfelt, if inadequate, expression of gratitude to the nursing staff at York, and especially the medical team, under Mr Wingzou Wong, without whose skill and dedication I doubt if I should have been here to celebrate Christmas 2010.”
