A BURGLAR has evaded police following a spate of crimes across the region.
A house in Melbourne, near York, was broken into using tools stolen from the owner’s shed between 10.30am and 11am on Thursday, November 25.
The 46-year-old homeowner returned home to find broken glass, tools and an overall by his back door. Police said he was confronted by the burglar who threatened him while holding a “sharp implement”.
The homeowner left his house to phone the police, during which time the offender fled the scene in a blue Peugeot 207, despite a police helicopter and a local on-foot team’s efforts to apprehend him.
A large amount of expensive jewellery was stolen during the raid, along with car keys and cash.
The offender is described as white and clean shaven, 20-25 years old, more than six feet tall with short brown hair. He was stocky.
A blue Peugeot 207 is also suspected of being involved with a theft in Scunthorpe the previous day, another theft in South Yorkshire and two offences of making off without payments in the Goole area.
Police believe the Peugeot may be displaying stolen Doncaster area number plates.
Anyone with information should phone Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222.
