A musical phenomenon has hit the right notes with people who simply love to sing.
The York rock choir, which encourages people with no singing experience to join them, held its first rehearsal in Shepherd’s Hall, at St Olave’s School, Clifton.
More than 50 people attended the first session, ranging from teenagers to the elderly.
There are no auditions and anybody can attend a free taster session to sing uplifting pop songs, ranging from Motown to ABBA.
All choirs are led by a highly trained leader, whose job it is to mould them into a polished singing unit.
Members also have the opportunity to take part in concerts, which raise money for good causes.
York Choir leader, Stef Conner said: “We firmly believe anyone can sing and the beautiful, rich sound of 30 or more people in the Rock Choir can make after just a few weekly sessions is incredible.”
The rock choir project, which was set up in 2005, has swept the country with members attracted to its fun ethos and uplifting benefits.
There are now nearly 100 rock choirs throughout Britain, including newly-formed groups in Harrogate and Knaresborough.
All rehearsals run between 8pm and 9.30pm. Visit rockchoir.com for more information and to book a free taster session.
