THESE youngsters proved that when it comes to getting to school two wheels are better than four.
About 14 York schools have been taking part in The Big Pedal as part of Bike To School Week.
The Big Pedal route runs from London to Great Yarmouth, passing through York in the final stages and as part of their challenge pupils from each school have been trying to complete the distance of the route, in the fastest time, on their way to school.
The race began on Monday and pupils will be pedalling their way through to March 25 with Bike To School Week being the last week of the tour.
Each school can log their cycling on the Big Pedal website and the schools who store up the largest distances can walk away with a range of prizes.
The more people from each class cycle to school, the faster that school will build up mileage and come closer to winning.
The school that comes first wins a day with M.A.D, Europe’s best known mountain bike team along with several new bikes. The school in second place wins a Minipod cycle and scooter storage rack.
There are also regional prizes available for schools competing throughout the route, and daily prizes to be won by those just participating during Bike to School Week.
The schools competing for the regional prize in the York are: Archbishop of York’s CE Junior School, Copmanthorpe Primary, Dringhouses Primary, Elvington CE Primary, English Martyrs’ RC Primary, Fishergate Primary, Headlands Primary, Millthorpe School, Poppleton Ousebank Primary, Poppleton Road Primary, Skelton Primary, St George’s RC Primary, St Oswald’s CE Primary, and Woodthorpe Primary.
