A GOODS vehicle driver from New Earswick, York, has been fined for ignoring the instructions of a Highways Agency traffic officer.
On August 13 last year, the 28-year-old man attempted to break a rolling road block which a Highways Agency crew was using to hold back traffic so that a colleague could recover some debris from Junction 26 of the M62.
The man pleaded guilty at Bradford Magistrates’ Court to driving without due care and attention. He was ordered to pay fines of £90 and £85 costs, and got a four-point endorsement to his licence.
Richard Marshall, regional operations manager for the north east of England, said: “Traffic officers do a difficult job in often dangerous circumstances.
It is vital that motorists comply with their directions to ensure the safety of road users and the safety of highways staff, the emergency services and others when incidents happen on the roads.
“Traffic officers work closely with the police and we are pleased to hear about this successful prosecution. This sends a clear message to anyone else who is tempted to ignore instructions from a traffic officer.”
