A CAMPAIGN which studies the use of public cash has today revealed figures which it claims show the pay packets of York’s council bosses.

A rundown of salaries among leading figures in local authorities across the country, entitled the Town Hall Rich List, has been released by The Taxpayers’ Alliance.

It showed City of York Council’s former chief executive, Bill McCarthy, was paid £171,000 in 2008/09 and had received £143,000 the following year when he left his post. His successor, Kersten England, took up the role in October 2009 on a £130,000 salary. The report also claimed director of city strategy Bill Woolley was paid £121,000 in 2008/09 and £129,000 the following year, while ex-director of housing and adult social services Bill Hodson received £252,000 in 2009/10, including his redundancy pay-off when he left last March.

Meanwhile, according to the Alliance's figures, Pete Dwyer received £114,000 in 2009/10, up from £110,000 the year before, as director of learning, culture and children’s services, Terry Collins was paid £108,000 in 2008/09 before leaving as director of neighbourhood services, and former director of people and improvement Heather Rice, who was also made redundant last March, took home £144,000 in 2009/10.

In his role as director of resources, Ian Floyd was paid £71,000 in 2008/09 and £123,000 the following year, according to the Alliance's findings.
