A Selby woman has been ordered to pay £300 compensation to the supermarket security guard she bit and punched.

Maya Wardle was warned she faced a jail sentence after being convicted of causing actual bodily harm to David Haynes, a security guard at the Morrisons store in Market Cross, Selby, while she was serving a community order. The trial was held after she denied the charge. The court heard Mr Haynes had approached the 30-year-old and asked her to lower her hood as a matter of store policy, but minutes later she had put it up again. When Mr Haynes approached her a second time, the court heard she punched him in the face and bit him on the hand when he tried to restrain her, causing puncture wounds and drawing blood.

Judge Peter Benson sentenced her to a three-month community order and curfew at Bradford Court.
