An iconic Spitfire is due to fly over the Yorkshire Air Museum during a visit by primary school pupils.
An education activity day will be held at the Elvington attraction on Thursday, June 9, involving up to 300 pupils who will take part in activities and workshops with a Second World War theme.
Children and staff will be encouraged to wear “period dress” for the event, with everyone given evacuee identification tags.
The Spitfire will be supplied by The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Funding cuts threatened to affect the event, but Sheppee International, a company based at Elvington Airfield Industrial Estate, stepped in with sponsorship The event is now in its sixth year and is organised by Wendy Taylor, of the North Yorkshire Business & Education Partnership, who described it as a “fantastic day of excitement and activity”.
