SERVING officers and men from 426 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) have made a poignant visit to the Yorkshire Air Museum.
The Elvington museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial hosted the visitors, who followed in the footsteps of Canadian airmen who served in the area during the Second World War, many of whom were killed.
426 (Thunderbird) Squadron RCAF was formed at RAF Dishforth, near Boroughbridge, in October 1942, but was predominantly based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, near York, where the special guests landed in a C130 Hercules transport aircraft the previous day.
During their visit to the museum they inspected the wartime Halifax Bomber.
Ian Reed, museum director, said: “We were thrilled the RCAF was able to come and see the memorial which remembers the contributions of so many Allied nations who came before them.”
