A THIEF on a bike snatched a handbag from an 82-year-old woman as she was walking into York city centre.
The thief, a man in his 30’s, was riding a bike along Tadcaster Road, near Ainsty Grove, when he grabbed the handbag as he rode past the victim.
Following the theft, which happened at about 8.50am on Monday, the suspect rode off towards Thanet Road.
He is described as white with a pale complexion and light brown hair. He was wearing light beige coloured top and trousers.
PC Colin Sutherland, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Thankfully, the woman was not hurt during this theft. However, it has naturally left her shaken and upset.
“I urge anyone who witnessed this appalling theft, from a vulnerable member of our community, or can help to identify the man responsible to contact the police immediately.”
Witnesses are urged to phone 0845 6060247 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
