A FRENCH student has made her return to a museum near York to help with its preparations for a celebration of links between her country and England.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is promoting The French In York Week, which will see a series of events across the city in October to commemorate French airmen based in York who gave their lives in the Second World War.

It will end with the inauguration of a French Memorial in York Minster, the only one of its kind in an English cathedral, on October 20, and Sandrine Bauchet has returned to the museum to play her part in the run-up to the occasion.

The Nimes student, who spent two months at the museum last year, was invited back to help prepare for the event and is acting as liaison officer between England and her homeland.

She also provided a Gallic presence at a recent local networking reception hosted by the museum at Café Rouge in York to let local businesses know about the plans for the commemoration, which is expected to bring hundreds of extra visitors to the region.
