THE highest judges north of the Humber processed through York today to mark the beginning of the legal year.
The Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Lord Crathorne, and the High Sheriffs of the counties of Yorkshire and North-east England joined High Court judges, circuit judges, barristers and other representatives of the legal community in York Minister for the annual Legal Service for the North-Eastern Circuit.
The occasion began with an procession to the minster from the Assembly Rooms and concluded with a return procession after a sermon by the Rt Rev Graeme Knowles, Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, London.
The Reverend Canon Peter Moger said: “York Minister is delighted to be hosting this service again this year. The occasion marks the important relationship which has existed between the legal profession and the mother church of the Diocese of York.”
