A NORTH Yorkshire musician has overcome autism to release his fourth album – with the help from a world-renowned American producer.
Talented Rory Hoy, 23, of Knaresborough, has released Hands In The Sky with the help of DJ Freddy Fresh, who has worked with stars including Eminem and Fatboy Slim. Rory’s debut CD Cosmic Child, a collection of ambient tunes and computer-generated electronic music, was released in March 2008 after tracks he uploaded to the internet attracted a wave of cyber fans and his musical talent was spotted by DJ Freddy.
The album received rave reviews and Rory’s second album, Standing On Dust, and third album Baby Likes It Phat on the same label, Howlin’ Records, achieved similar status – something he hopes to continue with his fourth album.
“I’m really thrilled with the initial response from my fourth album release,” Rory said.
“It’s a mixture of Big Beat, House, Dubstep, Electro, Soul and Funk, and includes a collaboration track with Freddy Fresh himself.
“It is available from all good digital download stores including iTunes, Amazon, Juno, Beatport and more.”
Rory’s four albums have brought a favourable response.
“I’m amazed,” he said. “I’ve been on TV, in many newspapers and on the radio, and the album has already been supported by Craig Charles three times on his BBC radio show Funk And Soul, which is fantastic.”
Rory said: “I have had fantastic feedback from people like Fatboy Slim and Mr. Scruff. It has been quite a year for me, with more releases over the past 12 months including a number of collaborations and remixes for artists from around the world.
“I’ve also started to do quite a few DJ gigs in London, Leeds and Glasgow and I would love to do more in Yorkshire, so anyone interested, do get in touch.”
Rory’s music began as a fun side-project to his award-winning film-making, which is helping young people all over the world to better understand autism.
He has made 30 short films to date, three of which have been shown by the BBC. His work saw him scoop a Royal Television Society nomination, a UNICEF award and six national awards, including one from film director Guy Ritchie.
His DVD and booklet, Autism And Me, was published worldwide in 2007 to help to promote acceptance of autism in mainstream schools.
