AN investigation will be carried out into the methods used by the National Railway Museum when planning repairs to Flying Scotsman.

As reported in The Press in October, repairs to the locomotive were delayed by several months after new faults and defects were discovered during the repair process.

The locomotive was due to be repaired and on display in the summer, but the complex engineering project is now expected to be complete by spring next year.

A spokeswoman for the museum said: “We have instigated a full internal investigation to ascertain why the defects were not identified earlier. We will ensure that we take on board any recommendations that result from the investigation.”
