TRAIN and bus companies have released details of their last services in the York area before they shut down for Christmas Day.

From 5pm tomorrow, East Coast, Transpennine Express, Northern Rail and First York will be running reduced services.

The last train for London will leave York station at 19.29, though there will be a later train at 20.14 to Doncaster. The last train to Scotland will leave York at 18.53, with a later train at 20.35 to Newcastle.

Travellers heading for Manchester Airport will be unable to get there by rail if they miss the 20.50 from Middlesbrough, which stops at York. The last train from Manchester Airport to York leaves at 20.10, while the last train to Scarborough from York leaves at 19.41.

First York will stop its bus services from about 8pm on Christmas Eve, with changes to its main services from 5pm including Nos 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 13A and 16 onwards. The Park&Ride services will make their last run from the city centre at 6.05pm and the Park and Ride sites will close at 6.30pm.

On Boxing Day, First York will run free Park&Ride buses, funded by City of York Council using wages deducted from council employees who took industrial action on November 30.

After Christmas, East Coast, Transpennine Express, Northern Rail and Cross Country Trains are running a special Christmas-New Year service with reduced catering facilities until January 3. They urge travellers to check their websites before travelling.

First York will shut down its network for New Year’s Day. On New Year’s Eve it will shut down in a similar way and at similar times to Christmas Eve.
