HISTORY lovers are being offered the chance to have their name “set in stone”.
The Friends of York Walls are raising money to reopen Fishergate Postern Tower, which forms part of the historic city walls, and turn it into a community space, cafe and visitor attraction.
To raise the necessary funds, people are being asked to “sponsor a stone” on the tower.
To sponsor a stone costs £20, and donators will receive a certificate identifying their chosen stone, an enamelled lapel badge, a car sticker and an entry into a message book where people can donate the stone to family, friends or to the memory of a loved one and have it recorded for posterity.
For more details, log on to yorkwalls.org.uk and where people can choose a stone.
The Friends will open the tower over Residents Weekend, on January 28 and 29, from 11pm to 3pm.
