THE Government has been asked by a York MP to meet a Yorkshire wildlife organisation and discuss fears about how sea creatures are to be protected.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has raised concerns that proposals for marine conservation zones will not offer enough protection and some important areas could be missed altogether.

York Central MP has asked Fisheries Minister Richard Benyon to meet the trust.

Mr Bayley said: “Now we have a new law on protecting sea life, it is essential the Government uses it to designate protected areas.

“I am pleased the minister has agreed to meet with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and I have written to him to follow up on this.”
