A SENIOR solicitor in a York law firm has hit out at Government plans to cut back on legal aid for victims of medical negligence and medical accidents.
Sally-Ann Robinson, head of medical negligence at Langleys Solicitors, warned the decision could make it impossible for some victims to start legal proceedings.
“The future with regards to the funding of medical negligence cases is uncertain,” she said. “When such changes and the Legal Aid cuts are implemented medical negligence lawyers will need to take stock and find a way to work with these changes to ensure that victims of medical accidents have access to justice. However, the Government have made it far from easy and there is a real risk that a proportion of claimants will find it difficult, if not impossible, to bring their claims.”
She was speaking after a series of votes in The House of Lords over changes to legal aid.
