A 59-YEAR-OLD man died in a three-vehicle crash near Selby.

The crash happened on the A1041 near Camblesforth at about 7.45pm on Saturday when the grey Skoda Fabia the man was driving was involved in a collision with a white Ford transit van and a black Renault Clio.

The driver of the Skoda was local and died at the scene. His family have been informed.

The occupants of the Renault, a man and woman in their 20s, were injured and taken to York Hospital for treatment. Their conditions last night were described as “stable”.

The driver of the transit van, a man from the Goole area, suffered minor injuries and was released afterbeing treated at York Hospital.

Police said the van had been waiting to turn right on the A1041, just south-east of the junction with Barlow Common Road when the Skoda, which was travelling in the same direction, was in collision with the van and the Renault.

The road was closed between the junction with Chester Court Road and the Wishing Well pub roundabout on the A63, to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.

The road reopened shortly before 3am yesterday.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or saw any of the vehicles prior to the collision to contact them.

Investigating officer PC Gemma Wood, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “It is important that we gather as much information as possible about the collision, both from witnesses who saw the crash and anyone who saw any of the vehicles prior to impact.”

• THE driver of a car which rolled over on a road near Knaresborough escaped without injury, firefighters said.

The fire service were called to the A168 at Allerton Park, near Knaresborough by the ambulance service after the car rolled over and back on to its wheels at about 6.30pm on Friday. On arrival at the scene, they found that no-one had been trapped or injured in the incident.
