TELEVISION presenter and actor Robert Llewellyn was filming at the Yorkshire Air Museum ahead of a special event this weekend.
The star of Red Dwarf and presenter of Scrapheap Challenge was at the Elvington airfield yesterday filming for a Channel 5 documentary about his father, who was a gunner in the RAF.
He got to see restored aircraft which will go on display this weekend as part of a Thunder Day including the eight-seater De Havilland Dove, first built in 1945. The Dove will be unveiled on Sunday at the museum’s site at Elvington Airfield near York.
Other vintage aircraft, including a First World War biplane and Yorkshire-built jet bomber the Blackburn Buccaneer, will also be on display as part of the museum’s Thunder Day.
Mechanics will start the engines on the vintage planes – and enthusiasts will have a chance to speak to the restorers who brought the aircraft back to life. The British-made Dove was used by military forces and airlines all over the world. A few are still in use today.
Thunder Day starts at 1pm on Sunday, with the museum opening at 10am.
