THIS mother duck and her adorable brood have become a familiar sight outside a York delicatessen.
Named Dizzy, the duck has been a regular outside the Hairy Fig deli and café in Fossgate every day for two years and she recently hatched a clutch of 12 ducklings who have joined her on her forays away from the Foss riverbank.
The shop’s owner, Sue Hardie, has been feeding her and her new arrivals and the family have become popular with customers and staff alike.
She said: “She is a loner and gets chased by geese, but she knows she is well fed and looked after here, she waits for me outside the shop sometimes before we open.
“She used to walk into the shop to be fed every morning, but we had to put a stop to that.”
Dizzy and her ducklings can also be spotted in the courtyard and gardens of the nearby Merchant Adventurers’ Hall.
