LIBRARY staff in East Yorkshire will launch the county’s first audio book club this month.
Bridlington Central Library in King Street will host the club on Friday, June 21, at 2pm, then on the third Friday of every month, with the first session an introduction to audio books.
The club is aimed at visually impaired people and at anybody who enjoys listening to an audio book, and it is also hoped people for whom reading is a challenge will find books “coming to life” when hearing them read.
A wide range of audio books is available to borrow free of charge in East Riding of Yorkshire Council libraries, and the books are available on CD and on cassettes.
Sarah Hutchinson, from Bridlington central library, said: “The idea arose after I gave talks to both Age UK and HERIB (Hull and East Riding Institute of the Blind). Both organisations were very impressed with our range of audio books, but felt that people needed to be made more aware of them.
“The new club will be ideal for people who have already discovered audio books, and for those who like the idea of having a book read to them. This could be the perfect opportunity to discover the excitement of audio books.”
