PUPILS at eight York schools are being given a taste of volunteering with the aim of inspiring them to help others.
City of York Council’s first Volunteering Day was held at Huntington School in April, when more than 250 young people took part in taster sessions involving local community organisations both during and outside school time.
Now seven more events are to be staged before the summer holidays at Manor CE School, St Peter’s School, Fulford School, All Saints RC School, Millthorpe School, York High School and Canon Lee Specialist Arts College.
The sessions will cover conservation, reading and story-telling, heritage, youth theatre and sports coaching, as well as a Dragon’s Den-style event.
