A NEW seven-storey student accommodation building in York has been praised for its contribution to the regeneration of the city.
The 232-room Gray’s Wharf halls of residence, in Navigation Road, cost £12 million and are due to open in time for the intake of new students at York St John University in September.
Gray’s Wharf is located next to a 272-room scheme from developers Harrison Development Ltd, which was opened in 2008.
Professor David Fleming, vice chancellor of the university, said: “This excellent accommodation scheme is playing its part in the regeneration of the area. Both sites are car-free, with students walking to the nearby main university campus so not adding to the city’s traffic volumes.”
