THE success of pupils at a York secondary school has been celebrated over three days.
Joseph Rowntree School, in New Earswick, staged three awards ceremonies to give prizes and awards to current pupils and those returning to collect A-level and GCSE exam certificates.
The first on Wednesday night saw many of last year’s Year 11 students return to school to celebrate their achievements and to catch up with past students and friends.
On Friday, the school welcomed back former Year 13 students to celebrate their A-levels.
On Thursday night at the school’s annual prize-giving, guests of honour were Jacquie Dale, director of housing and community services at Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, and Hugh Porter, the school’s former head teacher.
The school has formed a close working relationship with the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, particularly through the new school building which opened in March this year.
Head teacher, Maggi Wright, told parents and students that the evening celebrated the values the school holds dear: achievement in its many forms, attendance, effort and contributions to school life.
Mrs Wright said she was very proud of all the wonderful achievements of so many students and it was fitting Mr Porter should be the guest of honour for the occasion.
