CHILDREN at a York school enjoyed a discussion and exhibition of birds of prey during their lunch hour.
The birds, a tawny owl and a barn owl, are residents at the Young Offenders’ Institute, near Wetherby. They were tethered in the grounds of The Mount School to promote the school’s green outlook.
Jan Wilson is nursery teacher and coordinator of the forest school project, and said the children enjoyed the visit.
Jan said: “As a school, we really enjoy outdoor activities, and always try to get people in who support our ecological outlook. The children from nursery up to year six all had the opportunity to have their photographs taken while holding the birds. Blossom the barn owl has visited the school for the last few years, so some of our older children have seen her grow up.”
