PUPILS at a York primary school cooked up a treat on board the cooking bus.

The travelling kitchen-come-classroom aims to improve the skills and knowledge of adults and children through hands-on cooking lessons.

The fleet of Cooking Buses travel across England, promoting food hygiene, safety and positive nutrition.

The £16.9 million BIG Lottery funded initiative also encourages communities to use local and organic foods.

Carr Junior School’s participation has hopefully helped them progress towards a Food For Life Partnership Gold Mark.

On-board teacher Siobhan Haughey said: “By developing food education in schools, our aim is to teach life skills, and to forge a link between school, the home and the community.

“It has been a brilliant success.”
