A NEW community service is to open in a former shop in York.
Room 217, run by City of York Council, will operate from Lindsey Avenue, in Acomb, and will offer services including sessions for tenants to meet estate managers and open-door events with money and employment advisors.
Police will be able to hold drop-in surgeries and tenancy support services may also be run from there.
The centre will be available for free use by local community groups, charities and projects, with stopping smoking sessions already booked.
The office is part of a parade of council-owned shops and Coun Tracey Simpson-Laing, cabinet member for health, housing and adult social services, said: “It’s great to see this new space opened in the heart of a busy community, where the council and local groups can offer an open door to residents.
