COUNCIL bosses in York are looking for a new Older People’s Champion for sport and active leisure.
This annual award is made to an active and inspirational person and now people are invited to send in their own nominations.
The role was set up as part of the Olympic legacy, and the champion will be encouraged to help other people be active in their later years.
Last year's champion Simon Cowie said: “Being active and continuing to participate in my chosen sports is for me the key to maintaining a healthy mind and body; boosting my metabolism and keeping signs of inevitable ageing under control. This award has strengthened my resolve to lose weight, improve fitness and remain active and healthy for as long as I can.”
The closing date for nominations is Monday, September 1 and forms are available at libraries, leisure centres and community centres, or can be downloaded from www.york.gov.uk/eng-age.
