PROJECTS ranging from a skate park to a training scheme for young people hope to gain more support from the people of Tadcaster following the launch of a new website.
Details on a range of potential ventures in the town were included after they were put forward by residents and businesses last year.
The website has been created by Your Square Mile, a community organisation, and each project has its own page, outlining the idea, how it will benefit people, the next steps being taken and what help is required.
Paul Twivy, chief executive of Your Square Mile, said: “The launch of the Tadcaster portal is the next step in equipping residents to create positive change in their square mile, giving them the resources and information to make a difference in locally relevant ways.
“The portal will keep people connected, maintain momentum and inspire people to share their knowledge of their local area.
“It is not designed to compete with or replace existing local sites, we see it as a complementary aide that will work alongside local media of all kinds.”
People are being encouraged to volunteer for the projects through the site, and a news feed and discussion site offers updates and opportunities for volunteers.
Your Square Mile is working with local employer Heineken to match employees at the John Smith’s brewery to upcoming projects based on their skills.
Jeremy Beadles, corporate relations director for Heineken, said: “We recognise that as a significant local employer, we can make a real impact on the surrounding community by providing opportunities for our brewery colleagues to get involved in projects that local people feel passionate about.
“Your Square Mile’s consultation and activity has provided us valuable insights that enable us as a company to become closer to and a more active part of the communities in which we operate.”
