FLY-TIPPERS are being warned they will be tracked down and prosecuted after rubbish was illegally dumped in a Selby village.
A total of eight fly-tipping incidents have been reported in Cawood since July, and council workers are now carrying out daily inspections of the area to monitor the issue.
Building materials, rubble, green waste, black bags filled with rubbish, and a paddling pool have all been illegally tipped in the Bishopdyke Road area of the village in the last two months.
Coun Chris Metcalfe said: “All the waste that has been illegally dumped is now being thoroughly examined and if we find any evidence that leads us to identify the culprits responsible, it is council policy to find and prosecute these individuals and we will not hesitate to do so.
“We understand that this type of inconsiderate behaviour has a negative impact on both the community and the environment and we will do everything possible to catch those responsible and eliminate the problem in our district.”
Anyone found guilty of fly-tipping could be jailed for up to six months, and witnesses have been urged to contact a special council hotline on 01757 292044.
Coun Metcalfe said: “I would just urge people to keep a watchful eye on their community and report any issues as soon as possible. We need the support of residents to help stamp out this problem.”
